On January 1st 2010 the rate of VAT is due to change back from 15% to 17.5%. It is vital that our clients consider the impact of the change and ensure that procedures are in place to allow the correct VAT value to be calculated and reported within the system.
It is important to recognise that the VAT rate needs to alter in two places. Firstly, if you have a back office, there will be a VAT rate table that needs to be updated (unless you originally followed Datasym’s recommendations to add and additional rate to cover the temporary change to 15%). Each POS transaction records VAT against each line within that transaction. This is calculated using the VAT rate table within Datasym.POS itself. This is the most important area to ensure is correct as the rate set at the back office will not alter the VAT calculated within the transaction itself. Datasym.POS VAT rates can be altered by modifying the INI file on each terminal. Every terminal will need to be modified individually. If you have any questions regarding the VAT change and its implications within the system, please contact our helpdesk (if you have a current support contract in place) or alternatively your Datasym reseller.
