NHS Lothian has selected AdvanPOS hardware running Datasym’s latest DPOS SQL touch screen software to cover the NHS Aroma franchise sites across the region.
Datasym is pleased to have been selected to provide the EPOS hardware and software for the NHS-run café franchise across NHS Lothian. The Aroma franchise began in Scotland at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2009 and it is wholly owned by the NHS, whose aims are to reinvest all the profits from the outlets. Outlets covered under NHS Lothian are Aroma – Comely Bank Centre, Aroma – Royal Victoria Building, Aroma A&E – Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh , Aroma Main Mall – Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
At least 50% of the products on sale at the health-conscious cafe will feature low levels of fat and reduced levels of sugar and salt.
The cafe boasts that it will provide ethically sourced coffee with 100% traceability to farmers who will benefit from a price 150% higher than the Fairtrade price.
Public Health Minister Shona Robison said in a statement: “It is important that the NHS takes the lead in making it easier for staff, visitors and patients to enjoy affordable, high quality and healthier foods.
“Run by the NHS for the NHS, these cafés will put profits straight back into hospitals, benefiting patient care and, in many cases, creating new NHS jobs.”
Andrew Robertson, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Chairman, said: “This is an exciting new initiative and we’re delighted that Glasgow Royal Infirmary is home to the first Aroma cafe in Scotland.
“We are constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to drive up standards while at the same time ensure good value for the NHS – Aroma achieves both.”
